giraffes

so giraffe necks didnt evolve to be long and strong because they had to get leaves from tall trees. their necks are actually long and have a very strong bone structure so they can fight! youtube giraffes fighting or somethin, they literally hit each other with their necks loool. but anyways, they only fight because both think that they are equally matched fitness-wise, strength-wise, whatever and the one who wins gets to mate with the female! (fighting is the last resort in most cases, because you dont want to become less fit or get injured, because then you’re no longer going to be the top choice) so it only really occurs when the two males both think they are equally attractive. its an example of intraselective sexual selection, where the males compete against each other to get the female. and of course, the most significant purpose of a species surviving is to reproduce. so yeah! fact of the day :)
